The site of the age and the origin of water.

How old are the nitrates ?
Which is the groundwater renewal rate ?
How long between a corrective action and its results on groundwater quality ?

Groundwater age estimation can help answering these questions.

LADES is the first French private laboratory which proposed to all interested parties to date groundwater through dissolved CFC
(chlorofluorocarbons) more known under their trade name: Freons. Gas anthropic being used as propellent, cooling gases or solvents also gas with greenhouse effect and destructor of the ozone layer (interdicts by the protocol of Montreal)
 and SF6
(sulfur hexafluoride) gas insulating used in industry. Can be produced naturally by the crystalline rocks.
analysis. This method is a new technique used by scientist in hydrogeology. Virginie VERGNAUD (LADES director) has realized her PhD at University of Rennes 1 and adapted this technique to the French geological and economical context.

Groundwater dating allows to give an age to the water and thus to plan quality evolution in a drinking well according to different scenarios in surface practices. Consequently it helps knowing if the site will answer to the WFD requirements. Groundwater age also allows to monitor possible overexploitation of the resource or to date an industrial pollution.
